Infant Mortality Rate in the US

Just read a new article about our country's terrible infant mortality rates.

Crazy.

So, what do we think accounts for this? Just lack of healthcare for poorer people? Or is it a combo...for example hospital infection rates, early delivery by induction making babies lungs less developed, the amount of mothers on illegal drugs coming in to deliver, poor training for mothers on newborn care, low rate of breast feeding, high c-section rates, what could it be?

Much of the above.
Healthcare in this country is so awful. I've attended many births in the hospital as a doula for very wealthy, educated women who are treated poorly. Granted, not as badly as low income women I have served.
The whole system, especially the maternity system needs a complete overhaul. The insurance companies and the pharmaceutical companies have too much power and money tied into it to make any serious changes any time soon.
A country as wealthy as the US should NOT have such infant mortality rates.
I think the big craze for early induction and the higher cesarean rate are definitely spiking complications for both moms and babies.

Mothers on drugs need all the support they can get. Before they were pregnant they needed all the support they could get. Not many people have the care, the time or the respect to ask WHY a person is addicted.

Nurses don't have the "time" to train new mothers much of anything except to throw a Nestle Carnation formula diaper bag at them and shoo them out the door, usually after major abdominal surgery.

We are so rich as a country but so poor with our resources.
It's a sad state.
